How Much Will My (Website/Logo/Design/etc.) Cost?
If you are looking for something not covered on our prices page, send us an email so we can discuss exactly what it is you’re looking for and a general idea of cost.
We’ll always try to give an accurate estimate before work begins. Bear in mind that if your needs change partway through a project, it’s likely the total cost will change too.
If cost is a factor, we recommend starting with a smaller website that you can update yourself. (Our basic WordPress package, for instance.) If you need an occasional, very brief update we can sometimes provide this for free, although as a rule ongoing work is charged at our hourly rate.
We typically invoice for your domains and hosting once a year; discount rates are available for buying multiple years in advance.
How long will it take to make my website?
That depends on the size of the project. If time is a factor, we recommend a more design with a more straightforward theme and less pages; and to make sure you have your text and photos ready to go before work begins.
A bespoke WordPress website usually takes 2-4 weeks from first meeting to “going live”. (This is assuming any text or photos asked for are provided when asked, and the client is reasonably available to discuss the website when needed.)
As a client, what do I need to provide to begin a project?
We take a deposit before the draft begins (if you’re not happy with the draft and want to cancel the work, we’ll be happy to refund this – although that hasn’t happened yet!) We can also provide photography and copywriting as part of our services, but if this isn’t something in your order we’ll need your text and photos as soon as possible to avoid delay.
We’ll need some input from you on styles, choices of colour, layout etc. but can certainly get working based on whatever ideas you have, grand or simple.
If you already have a domain name we’ll need the login details for these as soon as possible. Sometimes this means contacting the original registrar or owner – since JBinc isn’t the account holder, this isn’t something we can necessarily help with (but we’ll do our best!)
How is the website updated once it is live?
JBinc.co.uk offer a monthly maintenance service (either remotely, over the phone or in person). Additionally, if you have a WordPress website then you’ll be able to log in yourself and make changes as often as you like (we’ll show you how over a tutorial session as part of our bespoke packages, or we can book a consultation.)
How is payment managed during a project?
If you’re happy to start work after our initial meeting, we take a deposit (£75 or 20% of the total estimate) before starting your draft. If you’re not happy with the draft and want to cancel the work, we’ll be happy to refund this (although that hasn’t happened yet!)
The remainder is payable at regular intervals and/or upon completion, depending on the total. In your initial consultation, we will discuss an estimate of total cost and billing.
Unless previously discussed and agreed otherwise, invoices will be sent by email; if you would prefer that invoices are posted please let us know at the outset of a project.
How are ownership rights established?
Typically any content produced by the client remains their property to re-use or modify as they wish, while any elements provided and/or created by JBinc.co.uk remain property of the designer.
For simplicity, domain names and hosting are purchased and administrated by JBinc.co.uk in advance (following permission to proceed) on behalf of their clients. If you would prefer to manage your domain yourself, this needs to be told in advance as their is a fee to transfer a domain name once purchased.
JBinc.co.uk retains the right to use any work designed or developed on behalf of the company for future promotion (both on-and-offline) and specifically in our portfolio.
I’ve been told my website is “live” on the internet, but it’s not on Google/Yahoo/AOL search etc. Why not?
When a website is ready to be found in search engines and seen by the public, we call this “going live”. A website will only be “taken live” with the client’s approval.
At this point, Google (and other search engines) will begin to index and categorise the site, a process which normally takes 1-4 weeks. A site that’s live isn’t going to be necessarily found on Google straight away, but can be visited by typing the “www..” address in directly.
By advertising a new website, you send more people to visit it. The more popular a site is, the better it performs in search engines and the sooner it appears. JBinc.co.uk takes no responsibility for your website’s long term search engine ranking – without visitors to your website, it is entirely possible that search engines may take longer to index your website – or in some cases, not include the site at all!
What happens if a project needs to be terminated?
If a client has viewed the first draft and doesn’t wish to continue work, their deposit will be refunded and no further costs are incurred. (Domain name and/or hosting purchases are non-refundable. There may be a transfer fee to move these to another provider.) After the first draft is accepted the client is responsible for all payment and will be invoiced for work to date should they subsequently wish to terminate the project.
In the unlikely event that JBinc.co.uk is unable to complete a project on behalf of a client due to unforseen circumstances, work completed to date can be transferred to disc once outstanding payments have been cleared, should the client wish to seek another provider.
