Frequently Asked Questions
- I’ve Read About Your Pricing - But How Much Will My Website Cost?
- We recommend getting in touch to discuss the specifics of how much your project will cost. We will endeavour to provide an accurate estimate in our initial consultation. Photography, copy writing, logo or other graphic design, and certain specific elements of website design may incur an additional cost above and beyond our package price.
- If cost is a factor, we recommend starting with a smaller website that you can edit and add to yourself, over time. (Our tailor-made packages typically include a one-hour tutorial to get you acquainted with the content management system.) If you would prefer for JBinc.co.uk to make the changes for you this will normally be costed at an hourly rate – although small changes may well cost nothing!
- Hosting and domains are typically charged on a yearly or two-yearly rate.
- Project timeframes. How long before completion?
- That depends on the size of the project. More specifically, to what degree you wish us to provide the creative design and content (copy/text and images).
- A typical five-page website might take up to five weeks from initial consultation to completion. This estimate assumes any required content is available from the outset and that the client is readily available to discuss the website progress when requested.
- As a client, what do I need to provide to begin a project?
- That’s up to you and your approach. Your creative input is very valuable to us, but we also appreciate that running your business takes up a great deal of time.
- We will take into consideration any and all style, colour and layout ideas you have. If you do not have any personal preferences, then we will produce something that we believe complements your brand.
- If you have already set up a domain name and/or hosting then we will need to know the company you use, the details of your order and, once past the “draft” stage of design, relevant login details so that we can launch your website without delay.
- JBinc.co.uk can, in most cases, provide required content (images, text and/or graphics) for you if required. Read more about the extras we can provide, or if you prefer get in touch with any specific needs.
- How is the website updated once it is live?
- If your site requires regular updates – for example, you own a restaurant and want to keep visitors informed of your latest menus – then JBinc can provide a system that will allow you to make changes to content as and when you see fit.
- You will be provided with a username and password to access and edit your content behind the scenes; the system itself is very similar to writing an email or word document. JBinc.co.uk can provide a one-hour consultation as part of our tailor-made packages to get you acquainted with the system.
- How is payment managed during a project?
- Normally a deposit is required at the outset following the consultation, should you wish to proceed. The remaining amount is payable at regular intervals and/or upon completion, depending on the total. In your initial consultation, we will discuss an estimate of total cost and billing.
- Unless previously discussed and agreed otherwise, invoices will be sent by email; if you would prefer that invoices are posted please let us know at the outset of a project.
- How are ownership rights established?
- Typically any content produced by the client remains their property to re-use or modify as they wish, while any elements provided and/or created by JBinc.co.uk remain property of the designer.
- For simplicity, domain names and hosting are purchased and administrated by JBinc.co.uk in advance (following permission to proceed) on behalf of their clients. If a client would prefer to administrate the domain under their own name, then it is most useful if this can be an established at an early stage of the project. There is a transfer fee to move a domain or hosting once it has been set up.
- JBinc.co.uk retains the right to use any work designed or developed on behalf of the company for future promotion (both on-and-offline) and specifically in our portfolio.
- I’ve been told my website is “live” on the internet, but it’s not on Google/Yahoo/AOL search etc. Why not?
- A website will be “taken live” when JBinc.co.uk and the client are in agreement that the website is either complete or close enough to completion that it is ready to be seen by the greater public. At this point, the website will be available to any visitor by typing the domain name into their web browser. However – this is not the same as typing the name into a search engine! If a website has only just gone live, it may be take several weeks until the website begins appearing in search engines, such as Google. (This is because search engines can a long time to process and categorise your website – this is known as “indexing”).
- Driving visitors to your website through online promotions and marketing is strongly recommended to speed up this process and optimising your website with appropriate keywords will ensure your website gets indexed correctly. JBinc.co.uk takes no responsibility for your website’s long term search engine ranking – without visitors to your website, it is entirely possible that search engines may take longer to index your website – or in some cases, not include the site at all!
- What happens if a project needs to be terminated?
- No costs are incurred if the client chooses to cancel the project before work is undertaken. Once the project is underway the client will be invoiced for all work to date should they subsequently wish to terminate the project.
- As stated above all domain names and hosting are purchased in advance by JBinc.co.uk on behalf of the client. There is a £30 administration charge in the event of clients wishing to transfer their domain/hosting details to another provider.
- In the unlikely event that JBinc.co.uk is unable to complete a project on behalf of a client due to unforseen circumstances, work completed to date can be transferred to disc once outstanding payments have been cleared, should the client wish to seek another provider.
